Marc Kinchen, aka MK is a prominent name in dance music and todays current mainstream, has successfully maintained a place in the music industry. After starting his career in the early nineties, Marc created his own record label by the name of, Area 10. He soon released, Burning, the track that led to his album deal with Virgin Records. After his single success and newly signed deal, Marc went on to become one of the top dance remixers in the world. His credits include an impressive list of artists from Bette Midler, Tom Tom Club, The B-52s, Bobby Brown and Janet Jackson. His 1993 album entitled, Surrender, featuring the singles, Always and Love Changes, hit #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play charts consecutively in 1993 and 1994. Not to mention his mix for Night Crawlers selling over 3 million copies worldwide and his work on Jodecis, Freakin You in which the record is still in the top playlists of today Not long after he relocated to Los Angeles to sign on as a music producer for Will Smith. From there he produced music for Dream Works 2005 hit movie, Shark Tales and theme music for Will Smiths TV show, All of Us. To date, he has worked with Snoop Dogg, SWV, Jay-Z, Ne-Yo, Rihanna, Beyonce and Usher.. Today Marcs legacy and influence as a producer is higher than ever. With re-releases of his classic 4 U and Burning to popular success with new remixes in 2011. Marcs sound can be heard through the current breed of deep house cool in the like of Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler and Maya Jane Coles. Here 20 of his most influential of recordings are collected and made available completely unedited, unmixed and DJ friendly for the very first time. This package includes 10 tracks that have never been made available on unmixed CD. These 10 tracks previously were vinyl only.

About Defected

It would be hard right now to imagine house music without Defected Records. From a small office in Soho, the label has become a key player -perhaps even the key player- on the international dance music scene, attracting some of the greatest talents working in the industry, regularly trumping the majors with crossover hits and media attention, and never far from the boxes of the world?s best DJs. In seven short years, the independent label has gone some way to achieving label boss Simon Dunmore?s vision of an imprint worthy to stand aside the labels that inspired him, from Motown and Philly in the soul era to Strictly Rhythm.

The Defected Records story started when A&R man Dunmore and promotions specialist Janet Bell found themselves at a crossroads in their careers. They?d made a great success of running AM:PM, the dance division of A&M Records, and when the latter was taken over and closed by a multinational corporation with little sentiment for music, they decided they?d ?...come to the end of the road with majors,? says Simon, who had also had several years of A&R work at Cooltempo under his belt, ?and it felt like the right time to do something for ourselves.? In essence, they ?defected?.

Defected now stands in an almost unique position for an independent dance label, with a globally recognised brand that?s synonymous with quality for the discerning clubber, an unparallelled roster of production talent and an ongoing programme of artist development, and a pivotal role in shaping the tastes of the market. It looks like Defected will be in the house for some time to come!
