About Renegade Hardware

Renegade Hardware was instituted in mid 1995 as an outlet for the harder and more experimental music our artists were producing. Renegade Recordings and Trouble On Vinyl had both already successfully founded themselves in their own niche and as Jungle/Drum & Bass continued to mutate with a sound called 'Hardstep' emerging. TOV immediately rose to the challenge adding an imprint that once again broke away from the mainstream structure of the music. The new label, Renegade Hardware, captured perfectly the essence of this fresh techy music and was an overnight success.

After numerous vinyl releases, the first album, 'Quantum Mechanics' (1997) was conceived. Featuring original Hardware artists Future Forces, Genotype, Kane and Shogun, the album optimised the sound of the time and became a seminal LP, firmly placing Hardware on the map, at the same time achieving No.1 in the Music Week album chart.

The second album, 'Armageddon' (1999) proved once again that Renegade Hardware had their fingers on the pulse, generating an LP that was both dancefloor heavy and futuristic. After the success of 'Quantum Mechanics', 'Armageddon' was widely anticipated, and its release was met with critical acclaim, achieving another solid No.1 in the Music Week Dance charts. The album received heavy rotation on decks all over the world, and became one of the biggest-selling Drum & Bass album's of 1999.

The next chapter to the Hardware album saga was, 'Essential Rewindz', mixed by Grooverider. Featuring a plethora of high quality beats, it was only fitting that the album of the year should feature the track of the year - Konflict's 'Messiah' - now a stone cold anthem. Marcus Intalex & ST Files' irresistible 'Moon Walk' and Usual Suspects 'Bodycount' were also particularly noteworthy, as was Cause 4 Concern's Hardware debut 'Research'. Amazingly 'Essential Rewindz' managed to even outsell both previous LP's.

For 2002 Hardware stepped up the pace with 2 massive EP projects. The triple part 'The Harder They Come' series culminating in another CD mixed by Grooverider and the four part 'Four Elements' series for which Friction mixed the accompanying CD have been outstanding projects from Hardware, each containing tunes which have subsequently become massive and too numerous to list... The Four Elements also provided a debut platform for Hardware's newest signing - Raiden - who has excelled with tracks from his recent debut EP included in his Paranoia mix.

2004 saw the release of the massive "Skool of Hard Knocks" LP, featuring the absolutely epic and totally timeless cut "Minds Eye" by Pendulum & Bulletproof. In the same few months, Raiden furthered his already excellent reputation with the 'Utopia' EP and Chase & Status made their magnificent debut in the shape of the '20/20' remix, originally by Future Cut.

Today Renegade Hardware averages out the highest number of record sales of the music group, and can lay claim to both the biggest ever selling record from all three labels - Usual Suspects 'Killa Bees' - and the highest national chart position achieved by any of the labels - No.34 ? for Dillinja's massive hit 'Twist 'Em Out' in June 2003.

Hardware continues to go from strength to strength. Now reaching our 62nd release pays testament to the quality and quantity of groundbreaking music that continues to be procured and released by the label.

Key Matches

Mixing music has never been so much fun.... ever wondered how a lot of big DJs create mixes and mash ups that sound too good to be true? By mixing tracks that are in the same or related keys, harmonic mixing enables long blends and perfect mash-ups. The goal is to eliminate those nasty key clashes.

Simply click on the Camelot key reference next to the track title in the list above and the Chemical database will show you key match suggestions, even for tracks you already have in "your collection" (you need to be logged in to use this function and you need to have either bought "your collection" from Chemical Records using your account log in or manually enter other tracks into "your collection")

You can also buy commercial software to give key data for your mp3's on your computer for this we recommend Mixed In Key.

Disclaimer: BPM & Key results shown here are not always 100% accurate (but they are not that far off) Please do not buy tracks based on the key or bpm from our results as we can not guarantee them to be correct, it is a guide only.
