The Kontrol X1 aims to give users instant access to features on the software without having to go back to their host computer. Opting for a familiar layout to DJs, the unit is divided into clear sections for FX, browsing, loops and transport.
Whether you are using timecodes (like the Traktor SCRATCH A6 / SCRATCH A10) or a DJ Controller (like the Kontrol S2 and Kontrol S4), the X1 can be integrated into any DJ setup giving you intuitive control over cue points, loops and FX and the backlit LEDs give you visual feedback depending on what section you are altering.
The browser section consists of 2 rotary encoders used for track selection and scrolling. The transport section has your standard play and cue with added feature of flashing LEDs letting you know if you tracks are slightly out of sync. One push of the SYNC button and you are back on the money. The FX section gives 2 channels of control mapped to the Traktor FX. All basic parameters can be adjusted and you can easily control 2 FX channels at a time giving you great scope for live tweaks.
Once in Hot cue mode, the lower 8 buttons become available to store hot cues within your track and quick triggering can lead to live remixing on the fly. Loop control is also a great feature as you can alter lengths of loops as well as set your own manual ones using the loop in/out function.
Each Kontrol X1 comes shipped with Traktor Pro 2.5 which features the Remix Decks and although the X1 is tailored for Traktor use, being a MIDI assignable it can be mapped to alternative software. Serato users will be pleased to know that mappings and a Serato overlay are now included in the package. If 2 decks isn`t enough for you then you can always add a second Kontrol X1 for 4 deck control.
If you are after a carry case that doubles up as a stand to elevate the Kontrol X1 to mixer height then check out the Kontrol X1/F1 Case.
If you want added control over the Remix Decks then check out the KONTROL F1.
