The microKEY 61 is a lightweight USB MIDI keyboard with Natural Touch velocity sensitive keys as used in the microKORG XL
and microARRANGER synths. The keys have been tweaked for optimum phrase work, chording and playability with an emphasis on touch and feel. The `waterfall type` keys make easy work of glissandos giving accurate dynamics to your performance.
The microKEY61 unit has a slim layout but still has your basic pitch bend and modulation for expression and octave shift and transpose giving you access to the full MIDI range. It is powered via the included USB cable and no drivers are needed so it really is a case of plug and play.
There are 2 USB ports on the microKey offering connection options to further USB controllers such as the Korg nanoKONTROL2
. It can also be used with an iPad but would need external powering.
Although there are 5 octaves on the microKEY61, it roughly occupies the same footprint as most 49 key MIDI controllers due to the smaller keys and is aimed more at the studio musician or people who need a portable set of keys that feel good as well as being portable.
Korg KONTROL Editor software is included (as a download) which enables you to customize your microKEY to your workflow and setup. Within this you can opt for either fixed velocity or 1 of 8 other curves (9 in total) and alter CC information.
As an added bonus, the microKEY61 ships with Korg Legacy Collection Special Bundle which consists of 5 software versions of classic Korg synths. These are the MS20, Polysix, Mono/Poly analog Synth, M1 and the Wavestation Digital. Alongside this there are licences for Lounge Lizard, EzDrummer Lite, and a discount coupon for Ableton products.
