The keys are semi weighted with aftertouch, there are your standard pitch bend and mod wheels and there are 2 inputs for footswitches such as an expression pedal (pedals not included) giving you an accurate human feel to your playing.
The 12 velocity and pressure sensitive pads have access to 4 banks each giving you an impressive 48 samples to trigger at your fingertips. 2 other features of the classic Akai MPC range have made their way into the MPK, note repeat and note swing. Note repeat enables you to trigger a sample continuously (depending on what quantization setting you have set) which is ideal for hi hats at the end of a bar and the swing is what has made the MPCs a mainstay in the production game for years. It gives you more of a human feel to your productions if they are starting to feel a bit lifeless and robotic.
The pads on the MPK25 can have be full level where full velocity is always in effect, and 12-level where one sample can be chromatically split over the 12 pads meaning you can play it in a few different keys. Tap tempo and time division are also available and there is an arp on board to help you create your own riffs.
A dedicated transport section gives you control over your basic DAW playhead position and 12 knobs and 4 buttons are assignable for Q-Link parameter adjustment. Each knob also has dual layer functionality further increasing your assignable options.
As the MPK-25 is a MIDI controller, it can be used in any software or sequencer and MIDI ins and outs on the rear enable it to be used to control any other external MIDI sources.
Ableton Live Lite Akai edition is included in the package so you have software to get your creative juices flowing right from the box.
If you need more keys and assignable faders then check out the MPK49, MPK61 and MPK88.
