The Focusrite OctoPre MKII Dynamic is based on the OctoPre MKII but also offers compression on each of the 8 channels.

Based on the same technology as the Focusrite Red 3, each pre amp mic channel has access to a VCA-based compressor with simple control and 2 modes. The OctoPre MKII Dyanmic is an ideal expansion upgrade for anyone looking to add more channels to their existing DAW, analogue or digital interface or hard disk recorder.

The built in 24bit 96 kHz digital inputs and outputs enable you to utilze the ADAT I/O connection on your existing interface if available. For example, say you have a Focusrite PRO 24 DSP and you want to start recording some drums or a band, you can add an extra 8 channels to the 2 already on the Pro 24 by connecting it to the OctoPre MKII Dynamic via the optical input. It can also be used for analogue monitoring on any digital ADAT source.

The mic pres on the Dynamic model are the new series as featured on the Focusrite Saffire Pro range which enable you to crank the gain right up without any hissing making it super clean. The first 2 channels on the unit have DI so you can plug your guitar or bass straight in with no need for an expensive external DI.

Compression is a simple one dial affair. Set on a rather transparent soft knee setting as standard, it can be beefed to more of an effect by turning on the `more` button which essentially doubles the ratio from 2:1 to 4:1. So whether you want to just tame the peaks or reduced the dynamic range audibly, the OctoPre MKII dynamic can do both. There is metering for each input so you can tell if you are clipping or coming in too low.

Phanton power is available on every channel should you need it and when it comes to clocking, there is internal, master and external via BNC or ADAT.

If you opt for 48kHz you can send 2 mirrored signals to 2 different outputs (or 1 signal at 96K) and there is a word clock in / out. All controls are adjustable via the front fascia and the 1U chassis makes it a slimline option for high quality mic pres with a bit of dynamic control.

Connectivity on the OctoPre MKII Dynamic:

Analogue Channel Inputs:
2x Mic / Line / Instrument inputs on the rear panel (Inputs 1 and 2). Switches automatically between Mic (XLR) and Line (TRS). Instrument selected via front panel buttons.
6x Mic / Line inputs on the rear panel. Switches automatically between Mic (XLR) and Line (TRS).

Analogue Channel Outputs:
8x Balanced 1/4" TRS Jack on the rear panel
Switching to enable monitoring of A/D inputs or ADAT inputs with ADDA switch on front panel.

Digital I/O:
2x ADAT Lightpipe (TOSLINK) inputs. Provides 8 channels at 44.1 and 48kHz (please note that in this mode, only ADAT input 1 is active, allowing for a total of 8 ADAT input channels at 44.1 / 48kHz). Provide 4 channels per port (8 total) at 88.2 and 96kHz (S-MUX).
2x ADAT Lightpipe (TOSLINK) outputs. Provides 8 channels per port (16 total) at 44.1 and 48kHz (please note that in this mode, the digital outputs are mirrored, providing outputs 1 - 8 on both ports). Provide 4 channels per port (8 total) at 88.2 and 96kHz (S-MUX).
